My EDM 310 Blog Assignments Are Now Complete!

Fellow Classmates,
I think we all can say that this has been a class full of tasks!! There were days where we were confused and didn't have a clue as to what we were doing! Besides all of that we finally finished! I wish each of you all the best with your teaching careers!!!!

What I have Learned in EDM 310

As the semester ends, I would have to say that I've learned things in this class that I didn't know existed! Picasa for example, I didn't know you can take your pictures and do all of the special effects Picasa allows. It was really neat. Also, all of the other Google features such as the spreadsheet, the calender, and Google talk. I'm sure these tools will be useful in the future. I really enjoyed every one's powerpoint. It was a fun way to get to know a little about each other. Overall, this was a very informative class and could be put to daily use!

iTunes University

iTunes is a really neat form of technology. Its uses are useful for both entertainment and educational purposes. iTunes many advances allows students and teachers to learn not only in the classroom, but outside the room as well. iTunes are also useful in the way it allows students to upload their instructors posts.

iTunes can be used as a fun learning tool. Very convenient and doesn't take up any additional space as would a laptop. Students should take advantage of the modern technology for it will be the replace of physical materials in the near future.

iPods at Duke University

The uses of iPods at Duke are very convenient for both instructors and students. It allows them to get away from physical materials and focus on something interesting and fun. Instructors found it easier for instruction as with small group activities and discussions. The iPods also enhanced support for individual learning preferences and needs.

Although the iPods has its advantages, Duke did however, face problems. There were challenges in systems for storage content, sharing and distribution with one another, and difficulties in finding commerical sources. There was lack of knowledge of the iPod and its contents from faculty and students. Also, recordings were not of sufficient quality for academic contexts.

As a teacher, I think the use if iPods would be very useful. They could be used anywhere in the classroom and the students wouldn't have to depend on the library. Also, it would make instruction easier and allow students participate in a fun and exciting way.

A Cultural Revolution

After reading the article, I realized that in the near future, everything will absolutely be technology based. This could have its advantages and disadvantages. Advantages being that everything would be easier and faster and a disadvantage would be power outages or different viruses that affect our forms of technology today. Although technoloy will have an huge impact in the future, I believe resources used today should not be put away completely for there is always reason to fall back on those sources.

Seymour Papert

The way Papert uses technology to provide educational ways of learning is really helpful. Education is the ultimate key to success and with all of Papert's avaliable digital opportunities, children will become more interested in learning. Although people laughed at Seymour Papert in the sixties when he talked about children using computers as instruments for learning and for enhancing creativity, his developments led him to be considered the world's foremost expert on how technology can provide new ways of learning.

Taking all of his developments in the class room will not be influential to students but for teachers as well. As the students learn the different methods of learning, teachers will have to opportunity to learn as well. As Papert's contributions go beyond the field of education, those of other fields learn these methods and apply them to whatever skills needed.

Reaction to Newspaper Article

After reading the article, I would have to say that I agree with the author. Reading is vital in everyday living and whether everything is printed or done electronically, the skill is still needed. Personally, I would have to say that I am more of a watcher. I tend to get a better understanding. When listening, I sometimes drift off and therefore information is not obtained. For students, I think that listening, reading, and watching are all important. In the classroom, all of this skills are used rather it is having them watch a video, read a novel, or listen to something pertaining to the lesson. In today's schools, it seems as though students are more interested in watching because it is more entertaining and it will hold their attention.

International School Blogs

This is a picture of students Sandaig Primary School located in Glaslow, Scotland.

On this particular class blog at Sandaig, it displays different pictures and captions of the activities done by the students. It also has listening samples that the students put together as an exciting and entertaining way of learning. It is a very interesting and fun site that displays the school's curriculum. Check out the site here: Sandaig Primary School

This is a picture of Kirklandneuk Primary School located in Renfrew,Renfrewshire,United Kingdom.

This blog was very interesting! The students are taking beginners French and it shows the activities they participated in to get a better understanding of the language. It showed the homework assignment where they had to create a family tree using only French vocabulary. It also gave the French and English words of the memebers of the family. Examples of blogs used in other schools in the U.S

This is a picture of Mr. Miller with his 10th grade English Class of Bradford High School in Bradford,CT.

Mr. Miller uses his blog to display information, homework assignments, and other assignments related to classwork. He also displays other resources that is useful. All of Mr. Miller's work adheres to the Bradford Public School's policy for computers. I thought that the links to the quizzes were very useful to the students as well as the teacher. It seems to be more convienent and faster.
Mr. Miller's 10th grade English Class

Here is a picture of some of the work done in Mr. B-G's English class at in high school in Massachusetts.

Like Mr. Miller's class, Mr. B-G's blog has examples of student's work, and a host of links to different educational sites. He has a special link for teachers and students for if they were to need any types of class handouts. Mr. B-G also has a section were he added all of the books from his library. One section that I found interesting was that of the different teacher blogs. This is useful in a way where other teachers can get an insight of how others are using their blogs as a educational tool.

ACCESS resources available for teachers

After reviewing the site, ACCESS is another resourceful site for educators. There are sources that allows teachers to come with creative ways of presenting their course of studies. It also provides remediation guides for high school students to pass the required graduation exams. The information given for teachers about additional technology to enhance instruction is very helpful. ACCESS and ALEX provides information for teachers that should make their job a lot easier.

Using ALEX in my classroom

As mentioned in the previous blog, Alex is an excellent resource for all teachers. As a future teacher, I plan to take full advantage of everything it has to offer. The different layouts of course of study and lesson plans will be very beneficial by cutting down on work that can be very time consuming. Also, the different web links that gives various kinds of assignments and activities. I would also put to use the personal workspace for storing and submitting lesson plans. With all of the resources available at this site, it will definitely insure a quality of learning for the students.

ALEX resources available to teachers

ALEX is an excellent resource for today's educators. It has lots of educational material that will be beneficial in making lesson plans, activities, and course of studies. There is a layout for lesson plans where all there is to be done is click on what you want it to consist of. This will not only be very helpful but less time consuming.
Other resources available are educational web links, personal workspace where teachers can create a workspace for storing and submitting lesson plans. There is also links of professional learning that gives information on development opportunities, teaching and learning tools, latest news, and much more. Distant Learning, which I think is an great tool, enables students statewide to engage in courses that they may not have access to in their schools. All of these resources seem to be very beneficial.

You Tube Movie About the Future reaction

After watching the movie, I found the information to be really surprising. With those predictions, the future is sure to be one that is very advanced. Advanced in a way that practically everything will or can be done by computer or some kind of technical device. Populations in the U.S and other countries as China will increase tremendously, as well as the labor force. All in all, we have to be prepared for whatever lies ahead us whether it be a year from now or twenty-five years from now.

South Experience

After beginning my first semester at South Alabama, I find it to be a pleasurable one. Everyone that I have met so far seems to be really nice and helpful. Most of my classes are going pretty well, but they keep me very busy at the same time! As I become more familiar with the campus and student body, I hope the rest of my educational journey is one that I will say I really enjoyed here at South Alabama.
